The distances offered at these races are a 5K
(once around the Lake), a 10K
(two times around), and 15K
(three times around). All distances are certified, which means they have been measured by a course certifier and the race distances are recognized as being accurate (although they are not currently USATF certified; we will return to USATF certification when the lake construction is completed). There is water available to the runners and volunteers to assist the runners. (Unfortunately due to recent changes we cannot allow runners to run with strollers or dogs).
Participation ribbons are given to all runners and place ribbons are awarded to the top runners, both male and female in ten year age groups. All those interested in running, whether beginner, walker, jogger, or competitive racer are welcome to join our monthly runs.
T-shirts and other apparel (emblazoned with our famous running ducks logo) are available for sale at the Fourth Sunday runs.
Bring the kids to the Fourth Sunday races, as we begin our third year of a new LMJS tradition, races especially designed for kids.
These races will take place every month during 2012, except for February, when the Couples Relay race takes precedent and March when there is no Fourth Sunday race due to the Oakland Running Festival. The races are free, no registration either, and the location is the parking lot of the Sailboat House (568 Bellevue Ave.).
Also, we have expanded our races for youngsters by adding a "Youth Race" category and the distance is about 1/2 mile. First starting at 8:40 a.m. will be the Kids Race. The Kids Race is intended for the younger kids, toddlers to first graders as the distance is just 100 yards or so and takes place in the parking lot. Volunteers will supervise the race so that parents and spectators can cheer the kids on. Each child will receive a healthy treat and a LMJS logo'ed ribbon.
Then at 8:50 a.m. will be the Youth Race. The Youth Race is for older kids, ages 9 to 12, and will take place on the street, Bellevue, and will be about 1/2 mile.
So bring the kids to the Fourth Sunday races and have them run too!
When and where
All of LMJS Fourth Sunday runs begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Sailboat House, rain or shine. Please note if you park on Bellevue, there is a $5 fee. Please do not enter Bellevue from the wrong way to avoid paying for parking. There is ample (and on Sundays free) street parking elsewhere.
