The Time is on Your Side 10K run and 5K run begins at 9 a.m. and 9:10 a.m., respectively, at the Sailboat House, 568 Bellevue, Oakland. View map.
No watches or pacers allowed. Since, basically, you are simply running clockwise around the Lake, the course is easy to follow though there are no course monitors. A few possibly confusing places are marked with flour arrows. The concurrent 5K and 10K races both start along the shoulder of the road, in front of the Sailboat House. Follow Bellevue Ave. as it bends around to the left, until you reach a "Stop sign" and the intersection with Grand Ave. A flour arrow directs you onto the sidewalk at this point which you follow on around the Lake, with the Lake always being on your right side as you run clockwise around it. The one mile point is near the cross street of Lakeshore Ave. & Brooklyn Ave. The two mile mark is across from 1555 Lakeside Ave. Shortly after the two mile mark, a flour arrow will direct you down a short path to the edge of the Lake. For about a half-mile you run along the edge of the Lake, roughly parallel to Lakeside Drive, then Harrison Street. At Grand Avenue, a forced right turn puts you onto the sidewalk next to the street. Continue on the sidewalk without turning into the paved paths leading into Lakeside Park; flour arrows direct you along the sidewalk. At this point you will reach the main entrance to the Park, Grand Ave. & Bellevue Avenue. There is a stop light, the ticket booth for Fairyland parking and a large green street sign, just over your head, that says "Bellevue Ave". A flour arrow will direct you to the right into Bellevue Avenue. Bellevue is the only portion of the course where you have a choice of running in the street or on the sidewalk (where there is one). When you have completed one lap, the 5K finish chute is on the shoulder of the road, just past a driveway to the Sailboat house. For the 10K, continue the same way as you did for the first lap. Complete one more lap (for a total of two) for the 10K. The 10K finish is located 143 feet beyond the 5K finish. |
