Serving The East Bay's Running Community Since 1977

We're a volunteer-based, nonprofit running club that loves to have fun. We support our diverse running community through training, races, social engagement, and outreach. We foster camaraderie, collaboration, and empowerment within the club and the community.

Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or just starting out, we have a place for you at LMJS. We host regular social runs, trail runs, and training programs for all levels of runners. We also have a race team that is registered with the US Track and Field association.

But LMJS is more than just a running club. We're a community. We love to get together and socialize after runs, and we're always looking for new ways to give back to the community.

So if you're looking for a friendly and fun running club, LMJS is the place for you! Come join us for a run today!

Welcome to the LMJS Saturday Social Runs!

The LMJS Weekly Runs email is going out each week with details of all our runs to all our active members.  Run details can also be found on the LMJS instagram for anyone to join us at any level. Runs are typically 3- 9 miles with the possibility of running further.  One distinguishing feature of the Social run is an optional designated breakfast meet up afterwards.  Come join the fun with LMJS!

    BEGINNER RUNNING CLASS

Lake Merritt Run Club offers a beginner running class to help individuals prepare to comfortably run a 5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles). This program is designed for those new to running or who want to improve their endurance for 3-6 mile distances.

The in-person training sessions start on Saturday, March 21. We will meet in person on five consecutive Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the picturesque Lake Merritt in Oakland. The program includes a five-week training plan to follow during the week. The program's goal race is the fully supported, timed Lake Merritt Run Club Fourth Sunday Race on April 26 (must register separately).

Group meetings are supportive, fun, and engaging. They cover essential topics such as form, safety, injury prevention, and other fundamental running skills. This five-week training includes a hands-on Saturday meet-up, a training plan, and plenty of online documents and resources to keep you engaged and motivated.

The cost is $40 for current club members and $50 for non-members. To save money, join a great club before registering. You'll also receive discounts on future training and programs and stay connected to a diverse, welcoming, and fun running club.

Feel free to contact  Edmundo Vito Cruz, the coach, at vitocruz@aol.com with any questions or to request a fee-assistance registration code. He is a certified running coach under the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA).

LMJS is a non-profit running club with over 49 years of connections in the Bay Area. It is a 100% volunteer organization that supports many local adult and youth running programs by sharing their knowledge, donations, and love of running.

Saturday Meeting Location: Adams Point, Lake Merritt, 568 Bellevue Ave (Grassy Meadow just before you reach the Sailboat House)
