Beginning running program

Periodically LMJS will be offering a beginning running training program for a small fee. The availability of this class will be announced well in advance in the e-bulletin sent to members and other runners, and it will be advertised on the LMJS homepage. A minimum of 6 runners is required in order to offer this training. The limit is 15 runners, to keep things manageable. Below is the basic outline of this class.

Beginning Running Training Program - Starting May 22

LMJS will be offering a beginning running program this Spring to help you get fit for the summer! This program is designed for those who want to work up to a 5K which is 3.1 miles, or approximately one lap around Lake Merritt.

These training sessions will be held for four Saturdays at 10:00am with a 5K race the fifth week and will involve a $20 fee for LMJS member or $30 for non-members. Our runs will sample a few of the gorgeous Bay area trails. The first will be held Saturday, May 22 at 10:00am at the Lake Merritt Sailboat House, where our 4th Sunday runs are held. The others will be held on May 29, June 5, and June 19. We'll cover topics such as running shoes, running form, safety, injury prevention and hydration and nutrition along the way.

Along with the class, your class fee will give entry into the June Fourth Sunday Run 5K on June 27. We'll provide training schedules, maps, and lots of encouragement. You'll need to come ready to run every Saturday with a water bottle and towel for the end.

This training is appropriate for anyone who wants to work up to a 5K and for those who haven't run for awhile and want to begin again. RSVP required for this program, with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 15 participants, to keep things manageable.
