Christmas Relays
The Christmas Relays is one of the oldest running events in the Bay Area and in December 2008 it will celebrate its 35th annual running. Our participation in this event pre-dates the formal establishment of our Club, and some of our founding members can remember when this race first began it was held on the Great Highway in San Francisco. As the popularity of this race grew, its location was moved to Lake Merced in San Francisco where each team member - 4 runners per team - completes a 4.464 lap around the Lake. LMJS usually fields a number of teams in the various divisions and it is not unusual to see runners representing 10 teams circling the Lake in their LMJS singlets. The Sunset Circle parking lot at the start/finish of the race serves as the rallying point for our runners, and after a hard run, a little Christmas cheer and goodies are indulged in. The 2008 race will be held on Sunday, December 14. If you would like to be on a team or form one contact Patrick McKinney at: pmckinney@fbm.com

Lake Tahoe Relays
LMJS has participated in this event since the Club’s inception and it is part of our tradition. The Tahoe Relays is always held the 2nd Saturday in June and recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. The race consists of 7-person teams racing around Lake Tahoe (72 miles), with each person running approximately 10 miles. However, each leg varies in its topography and scenery, with some legs featuring uphill climbs and others a downhill descent. There are also some legs basically flat with very little variation in elevation. It is a unique experience and many LMJS’ers have done it for a number of years. It provides for a weekend getaway to a beautiful spot, where you can mix running with relaxation, plus enjoying the camaraderie of other Club members. Team divisions include open, masters, seniors, veterans and mixed (3 and 4 mixed gender teams). For more information go to the race website.
The 2008 edition of this race will be held on Saturday,
June 14. Usually LMJS fields 4 to 5 teams for this 7 person relay.
