Training groups you can join

A common question from runners is: "What kind of training runs does your club have?" The following is a list of training groups offered by LMJS members and other club in the East Bay to help runners find groups to run with. Please contact the individual indicated for each training group if you have questions about their runs. PLEASE NOTE: THESE TRAINING GROUPS ARE NOT OFFICIAL ACTIVITIES OF LMJS AND YOU ASSUME ALL LIABILITY AND RISK SHOULD YOU DECIDE TO RUN WITH ANY OF THEM.

LMJS Weekly Training Runs


Saturday Morning Training Runs
All runners are welcome to join LMJS for our Saturday morning training runs at venues throughout the East Bay. There will be several options offered in terms of distance, from just a few miles for beginners or double-digit for those training for a marathon. See our training schedule for more details. Oakland/Piedmont Frequency: Once a week
Day and Time: Wednesdays or Thursdays, 7:00 a.m.
Distance: Track workout, 2-3 miles of intervals or tempo run

Frequency: Once a week
Day and Time: Saturday or Sundays in the morning
Distance: 5-6 miles (may be longer)
Location: Berkeley/Oakland Hills or bike paths in Contra Costa

Oakland (Nickname: "Lake Merritt Swans")
Frequency: Call to arrange dates and times
Day and Time: Varies
Distance: 2-3 miles
Location: Alameda Beach or Lake Merritt

Lafayette
Frequency: Once a week
Day and Time: Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
Distance: 3-6 miles
Location: Lafayette Reservoir

Comment: This group has mostly been walking, with a little bit of running thrown in. Pedestrians of all speeds are welcome.
South Berkeley Area
Frequency: Weekly
Day and Time: Weekdays and Saturday in the morning around 6:30 a.m.
Distance: 2-3 miles
Location: Meet at a local dirt trail or Clark Kerr track

Pacific Striders - track workouts
Frequency: Twice a week
Day and Time: Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., Thursdays at 6:00 p.m.
Distance: Track workout, 2-3 miles of intervals or tempo run
Location: Tuesday workouts are always at Piedmont High Track
Thursday workouts from Spring to Fall @ Edwards Stadium in Berkeley, Winter @ Piedmont High Track

Pacific Striders - Weekend run
Frequency: Once a week
Day and Time: Sundays at 8:30 a.m.
Distance: 6 to 10 miles

Mike Palmer
Frequency: Several times during the week and both days of the weekend.
Day and Time: Weekdays in the evening and weekends in the morning.
Distance: 5 to 10+ miles
Location: Weekdays meet in Berkeley, weekends it could range from Mt. Tam in Marin to the East Bay park trails.

Diablo Road Runners
Frequency: Twice a week
Day and Time: Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m.
Distance: 5-6 miles

Golden Bay Runners
Frequency: Once a week
Day and Time: Saturdays at 8:00 a.m.
Distance: 5-6 miles

Piedmont Fartleks
Frequency: Twice a week
Day and Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 a.m.
Distance: Tuesdays are a training run of 5-6 miles, Thursdays a track workout
Location: Tuesdays meet in front of the Wells Fargo Bank on Highland Ave. in Piedmont Thursdays meet at the Piedmont High Track

Day and Time: Saturdays at 9:00 a.m.
Distance: Varies, but averages 5-6 miles at a comfortable pace
Location: Different sites in the East Bay including Lake Merritt, Alameda, Berkeley, etc.

Road Runner Sports in Concord
Frequency: Twice a week
Day and Time: Thursdays @ 7:30 p.m. and Sundays @ 9:00 a.m.
Distance: Thursdays 4-6 miles and Sundays 8-15 miles
Location: Runs start in front of the store located at 1975 Diamond Blvd. in Concord (Willows Shopping Center) Water, gel and other goodies will be provided

Frequency: Weekly
Day and Time: Saturdays @ 8:30 a.m.
Distance: 4-6 miles
Location: Runs start in front of the store located at 45-B Crescent Drive in Pleasant Hill. Log your runs and earn rewards.

TranSports Running Store in Oakland
Frequency: Weekly
Day and Time: Wednesdays @ 6:30 p.m.
Distance: 5-8 miles
Location: Trail run at various locations in the East Bay during the Spring, Summer and Fall. You must sign up with the store in order to participate.

Sports Basement - Walnut Creek
Frequency: Weekly
Day and Time: Mondays @ 6:30 p.m.
Distance: 2-10 miles
Location: Run from the store, 1881 Ygnacio Valley Rd., Walnut Creek, along the Canal Trail or Iron Horse Trail and back to the store.

Frequency: Weekly
Day and Time: Wednesdays @ 6:15 p.m.
Distance: 3-6 miles
Location: Run from the store, corner of Filbert and Fillmore. Refreshments at the store will follow and get 10% off non-sale merchandise too.
